Friends of Advantage

This years Car/Bike Show brought in quite a diverse attendance on Saturday, October 22nd. From race bikes to show cars to street rods and rat rods, much attention was captured with the awesome display. The 2011 awards went to Best in Show, Best Bike, Best Rat Rod, Top 10, and Car Club with the most vehicles present. Cash drawings and door prize drawings were held for participants. A special thank you to Tommy Landrum of Cruzin' to the Oldies for providing music and emceeing the event.

Friends of Advantage would like to thank everyone who participated in our 2011 Afternoon Tea with "Friends" at the State Botanical Gardens on August 27th. The drive through the beautifully landscaped park followed by the peaceful walk through the lush green atrium inside the Callaway Visitors Center to the picturous Garden Cafe set the tone for an elegant event. We had a lovely day surrounded by a colorful atmosphere with vibrant attendees and much celebration. Each table was individually and uniquely themed with delightful fresh cut flowers provided by Athens Eastside Floral Design.

Friends of Advantage (FOA) has scheduled our 3rd Annual Car/Bike Show and Children's Carnival for Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 5-8 at The Varsity in Athens.

This year's event will offer Costume Contests for children, adults and pets; many games to include Apple on a String, Balloon Pop, Go Fishing, Pick Up Ducks, Sack Racing, etc; face painting; and candy "trunk or treating" as well.

We've got two great events coming up this summer and fall. Check out the links and mark your calendars early!

Friends of Advantage 2011 adDRESS a Need SALE helped dress many for formal occassions this year! Dress that retailed for over $800 was sold for $150 or less. This project almost doubled proceeds from last year in light of our generous sponsors and increased traffic & participation with this event. FOA granted PROM Scholarships to young ladies in Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Madison, and Walton counties. We would like to see PROM Scholarship applications from all our ten counties next year.

After nearly year of building funds through your support, Friends of Advantage has made its first major contribution to ABHS -- over $20,000 to the completion of the renovations at the Elberton developmental disabilities site, Qualitech.

This renovation will allow all ABHS programs in Elbert county to move into one location, saving money on rent for years to come.
